When the dopamine wears off…avoiding the next crash

Does dopamine really mitigate pain? If so, what part does dopamine shortfall play in chronic pain conditions such as fibromylagia, neuralgia and in the delayed and often exaggerated post exertional responses of ME/CFS? How does this factor overlap with other dopamine deficient conditions such as ADHD and parkinsons and how can the knowledge of it be used to hack a better life in chronic health cases where dopamine levels play such an intrinsic part?

Adult ADHD challenge: When you know you need to stop everything for while…but its a real struggle to do so

As someone with ADHD I can never completely stop or relax. I end up laughing at myself for my lack of ability to sustain even the most inviting moments of peace and inactivity for very long but I am also mortified. Almost as soon as I have clocked the perfection of such a moment, like taking a minds-eye photograph of it, I am already prepared to dismantle it and move on to the next thing. Its as though I am designed to blow-up such moments of completion, some part of me utterly compelled to drop the pebble in the smooth pond, like I just cant help myself!

Driven by positivity: an alternate spin on neurodiversity

Considering a hunger for positive feedback, recognition and praise as a main driver for a lot of people with ADHD, leading to a euphoric state on the rare times we ever receive it. Such positive feedback can turn us into a "whirling dervish" of positive energy and enable us to turn all that apparently erratic energy around and apply it to striving, thriving and making good things happen.

When you're hungry for good vibration, when your system basically runs on it above all other motivators, it runs the risk of sucking vibes in from many sources, not all of them equal. Exploring the cross-over of neurodivergence, stimming, addiction risk, the need to source the right energy for your life and the possibility of finding good health, even thriving, once you realise your energy needs are fundamentally different to other peoples.

The fascinating cross-over of ADHD and chronic illness (and other unsolvables)

I was at an outdoor concert in an idyllic setting listening to some of my favourite music and yet, less than 5 minutes into it, I realised some part of me was screaming an existential scream, knowing I was going to be sat there like this for the next couple of hours. Admitting I have ADHD, that I am wired to need more dopamine than most, that I am rewarded by all kinds of stims (and not all are created equal...plus some are much harder to come by when your health is compromised) is proving to be a massive step towards understanding chronic illness, how it came about and why it perpetuates.
