Environment is such a big topic when it comes to chronic illness, perhaps an obvious one too but I also think far too many people with chronic health problems get so wrapped up in their own situation that they fall into the trap of imagining all their problems stem from a faulty body. Even when they do realise the environment may be playing a considerable part, they don't seem to see what the issues are or they assume there is nothing that can be done about it, but that's not entirely true...awareness always leads to choices we may have overlooked.
Is your body acutely sensitive to quotas of light, to changes in the season, to events way outside your mind's awareness? Time to celebrate how truly remarkable it is...and to learn to live with it.
I see in my dog a parody of same comic behaviour that plays out in me and mine at this time of the year, which he also finds something of a struggle being a sun-worshipper of the nth degree. He sleeps a hung-over type of sleep most of the day, his nose pushed deep into the pile of blankets that he insists upon, then he gets up for his walk (the one lively time of his day) and, once the sun goes down, obsesses about food and snacks like his life depends on getting another treat out of the cupboard, before falling back into a deep slumber in his bed. So what does this tell me..?
Think of it as that feeling you get when you're next to a waterfall...When negative ions are freely available, we think more clearly, feel most positive and uplifted, feel creative, inspired and connected. They have been shown to promote alpha brain waves, which flow seamlessly between left and right hemispheres of the brain, and a general increase in brain wave amplitude which then translates as overall higher awareness levels, an optimal state of "firing on all cylinders" using the full range of our skill set. When negative ions abound, metabolism is enhanced by overall better functioning of the body’s systems for processing nutrients and this also feeds into brain function and increased flow between the logical and the intuitive aspects….so, you could say, we get super-inspired at these times; prime territory for spiritual and creative growth and for human evolution. So where do they disappear to; what is it about modern life that chases them away and how do we redress the balance? Here's how...(read more).
If you are a 'sufferer' from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) this is your loud and clear invitation to consider ways (and here's a whole treasure-trove of them, gathered through my own personal experience) that you get to create a very different experience; consciously, through choice. Suddenly, a seemingly endless procession of gloomy days doesn't seem all that gloomy anymore but, rather, has become the very playground of creating your own best experience - and not just in this rather trivial-seeming way but in all things, putting you back in the driving seat as the creator of your own best possible life.
